North West England weather forecast

Headline:

Dry and sunny, feeling warm, cloud increasing later.

Today:

Any early morning mist soon lifting leaving much of the day dry and sunny. Skies will cloud over from mid to late afternoon. Feeling pleasantly warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud will continue to increase from the north during the evening, perhaps with some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle across the hills of Cumbria later in the night. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Monday:

Cloudier but largely dry and bright on Monday. The cloud may be thick enough to give the odd spot of drizzle here and there during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Slowly turning less settled from the north over the coming days with outbreaks of rain and brisk winds arriving on Tuesday. Becoming rather showery Wednesday and Thursday.

The first part of the period most likely characterised by showers sometimes blustery, occasionally heavy with thunderstorms, sometimes forming larger bands of rain. Showers most often across north-western areas but all areas likely to see some, generally lighter in the south with a good deal of brighter spells around these. Temperatures rather cool. Into the new week the outlook becomes uncertain though most likely an increased potential for periods of rain breaking into showers to spread from the west with fresh or strong winds at times. The southeast of the UK will probably continue to be drier with western areas more likely seeing the most rainfall. Temperatures mainly around normal, feeling cool in the west with best chance of warmer temperatures in the east.

Updated:

There is a slight shift of the most favoured regime from more unsettled to settled conditions through this period, though by relatively small margins, this linked to a slight trend towards drier and warmer conditions especially in the south as the period progresses. On balance, it is probable that a continuation of variable, slow moving weather patterns are likely through much of June, with high pressure becoming more dominant from the west late on. Temperatures are most likely to be around or above normal.
